Vessi Footwear is the first company to have made 100% waterproof shoes. Not water resistant, not water repellent, no coating - but completely WATERPROOF. This is because of their patented flash knit technology that allows the shoes to be not only waterproof, but also lets moisture escape from inside the shoe as well. The shoes themselves have 4 main features:
They are vegan.

We have received our Vessi's and will be testing out their features, as well as a 5th element that is important to us - they have to look good. Let's go!
They Are Vegan
Unfortunately we are unable to test this feature out, but Vessi Footwear prides in the fact that their shoes are animal cruelty free and contain no animal biproducts.
They Are Lightweight
Vessi Footwear states on their website that the shoes weigh 5.3 oz, which is the lightest waterproof shoe. They also state that they weight lighter than an iPhone.
We used a kitchen scale to weigh out our shoes. Here were our results:
iPhone X (10) is the SAME weight as Melissa's size 6 women's Vessi's - 6.1 oz vs. 6.1 oz.
iPhone X (10) is LIGHTER than Kelsey's size 8 men's Vessi's - 6.1 oz vs. 7.1 oz.
Based on the results, we think that Vessi's smallest size may be 5.3 oz, and the bigger the size, the heavier it will weigh (duh). But that's not something we would hold against them since they are still lightweight.
Then we decided to push our tests further and compare them to some of our lighter shoes. I compared my Vessi's to my Nike Flyknits, and Kelsey compared his to his Nike Roshe 2's & Nike Flyknit Racers. Here were our results:
Melissa's Nike Flyknit Free Runs are LIGHTER than her size 6 Vessi's.
Kelseys Nike Flyknit Racers are LIGHTER than his size 8 Vessi's, His Nike Roshe 2 are HEAVIER than his size 8 Vessi's.
Now based on those results, Vessi shoes are not the lightest shoes out there, but they are still the lightest WATERPROOF shoes.
They Are Breathable
Because of their flash knit material, Vessi's shoes are breathable, meaning that your feet will breathe easy. The flash knit material also lets moisture escape while still being waterproof, which in turn leads to less sweat and odor. To test this out, we went to the gym to workout in them and walked outside in the Las Vegas heat.

We did an intense leg workout and walked outside in over 100 degree weather, which had it's ups and downs. My feet were still fairly sweaty by the end of it. I could feel it in my socks. But the smell was surprisingly bearable. It just smelled of the mustiness that heat provides sometimes. With Kelsey and no socks, he said it was about the same as most of his other shoes.
Definitely would not recommend on a leg day because they are cushioned. Which still isn't a bad thing! That just means they are better for hikes, casual wear, and as everyday shoes.
They Are Waterproof
Again with the flash knit material - it keeps them completely waterproof! Vessi Footwear has got it down with this flash knit material. It is truly versatile. The shoe itself has no seams which give you a snug fit on your foot, keeps it waterproof, and makes it super easy to clean.
During workout I had already gotten my shoes dirty, as was expected with a white shoe. So this next test was perfect to see if it was not only waterproof, but if I could clean them with just water.
We started off by putting paper towels inside of the shoe to see if it would get wet during the test. Then we grabbed a hose and went at it! Unfortunately while spraying Kelsey with the hose, water seeped into the shoes.
But that was only because it was an unfair test and I had decided to drench him completely with water haha.
My results were different however, and only a small part of the paper towel inside of the shoes got wet. I believe this was because of my socks. My socks were showing on the outside of the shoes and I had gotten those wet while spraying them with the hose. So when they got wet, they started seeping into the shoe itself, getting the paper towel wet as well. However, spraying them actually cleaned up the black marks I had on them while working out!
A better test may have to been just to dip our shoes in water or just spray the shoes themselves instead of spraying them from all over the place. So it wasn't exactly a fair test, but the shoes held up pretty well considering!
They are definitely waterproof. Just don't try what we did.
They Look Good
An important feature for us when we buy shoes is that they are fashionable - that they look good while wearing them. Because if they aren't then what's the point?
I personally like the look of them. Mine are white and brown (or beige?), which I was skeptical of getting at first because white gets dirty so easily. I'm happy that I ended up choosing them. They are so nice! I can pair them up with a sporty look, but also go casual as well. They may even be nice enough for a semi-casual look because of how clean they look.
Kelsey's charcoal gray shoes are perfect for sporty and casual looks. We just wouldn't recommend them with a suit and tie.

Overall the shoes are a hit! Not only are they comfortable and fashionable, but they're super functional as well. Although they aren't the lightest shoes out there, we don't think anyone can complain about their waterproof feature. That is hands down the best feature of these shoes. We can't wait to jump in more puddles and mud to see how they hold up.
